A well acclaimed and admired artist, he is a recipient of U. P. State Lalit Kala Academy Award-1964 and U. P. Artist Association Award. He was honoured as the Best Artist in Himachal Pradesh by the H P. Lalit Kala Academy in 1995 and as Veteran Artist of India by AIFACS, New Delhi. An ever active and creative artist, he is doing great service to Art.

Prof. Sanat Kumar Chatterjee

Rich and astounding contribution in the field of Art and Literature has made him worthy of my eulogy.
Born on 18th October, 1935 he is on of the finest artists of the country, a creative sculptor and a forceful poet. An exponent of the traditional Indian style of paintings, he is the disciple of Shri Ashit Kumar Haldar, the first Indian Principal of an Indian Art college. He is an accomplished and energetic artist having to his credit a rich work of over ten thousand paintings and eleven hundred sculptures. He specialises in long paintings and holds the distinction of making some of the world's longest paintings. He has done four gigantic scroll paintings measuring 75ft x 5ft, 90ft x 8ft, 92 ft x 9 ft and 100ft x 11ft. The first three paintings have been unveiled by the Presidents of India Shri V. V. Giri, Shri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy and Dr. R. Venkataraman respectively; who had great admiration for his art works. His name is entered in Guinness Book of World Records and Limca Book of Records for making the largest painting in the world measuring 100 ft x 11 ft scroll on silk in wash technique called 'How Energy Evolved and Consumed'.
He was associated with the beautification of Renuka Lake and made eight sculptures. He also made 22 sculptures for 'Shanti Sangam', Nahan. He has held 72 art exhibitions in various parts of the country and his paintings adorn many Raj Bhavans and other places of public importance. Two of his famous sculptures are installed at Himachal Bhavan in New Delhi and H. P. Secretariat in Shimla.
A multifaceted personality, he has composed about 1400 songs and poems besides authoring a book titled 'Inspiration From the Past'. A well acclaimed and admired artist, he is a recipient of U. P.
