Born & Brought up
Born in 18th December 1935 in Lucknow. A renowned centre of arts, Prof. Chatterjee showed great promise in the field of painting and sculpture at the surprisingly early age of seven, and delighted his parents, father late Nirmal Krishnan & mother Durga Devi.
Father being in railway, he spent his childhood in various Indian cities like Danapur, Allahabad, and Calcutta. Finally settled in Lucknow, from where he completed his academics.
Education in Oriental Arts
Sanat Chatterjee is on of the finest artists from India, a creative sculptor and a forceful poet. An exponent of the traditional Indian style of paintings, he is the disciple of late
Shri Ashit Kumar Haldar, the first Indian Principal of an Indian Art college and one of the pioneer from Bengal Schaool of arts. Mr. Chatterjee was only a student of class IX when he joined Mr Haldar. Mr. Haldar not only took a fancy to this young artist, but adopted him as his future 'hope'. Under the influence and able guidance of Mr. Haldar, for long strenuous fourteen years, Sanat Kumar blossomed into an artist with tremendous potentialities, acquirimg virtuosity in Bengal School style painting.
Academics
Sanat Kumar Chatterjee did his diploma in Fine Arts from the Government College of Arts and Crafts in his hometown, Lucknow ( India) in the year 1960. His training was later completed under Asit Halder one of the early disciples of Abanindranalh Tagore, he also studied art under Shri Khitinder Nath Majumdar of Allahabad . |
